October Meeting Wrap-Up

Once again the Exchange Hotel hosted a good crowd of around 40 mobile enthusiasts, as Mobile Monday Brisbane returned for a lively October meeting.

QPay's Greg Walter answers questions

Tom Adams from mogeneration began proceedings with a presentation about Oomph, their mobile magazine publishing system. Then QPay’s Greg Walter showcased their mobile payments system – being deployed with some success by the likes of Visa and Westpac. Finally, Wearehunted’s David Novokavic presented their MySpace music application on the iPad. As usual, the evening ended with Brisbane’s best mobile networking over a few drinks.

Thanks again to Greg and QPay for sponsoring our October meeting. And don’t forget the Mobile Movember initiative! Helpmake Brisbane’s mobile community the leading fundraiser of all the Mobile Monday chapters in Australia!

Next month we’ll be MoMo’ing again on the 15th, with the ixmasparty on Wednesday 17th. Stay tuned to the mailing list for all the details.

It’s a Brisbane Mobile September!

Mobile Monday Brisbane is thrilled to announce our speaker lineup for September. We hope you will join us on Monday 20th for another interesting and provocative networking evening with Brisbane’s mobile elite.

Samsung

Luke SteeleLuke Steele, Samsung Australia’s Partner Manager is going to talk about bada, Samsung’s new mobile operating system. Luke’s going to talk through Samsung’s investment strategy for bada, showcase the bada application market and ecosystem, and of course show off Samsung’s first bada-equipped handset, the Samsung Wave.

Mobile Monday Brisbane is delighted to welcome Samsung as our sponsor for this month’s Mobile Monday.

We also have two terrific local speakers to round out the evening:

RhysCooperRhys Cooper, from Doo Mobile, will be talking on the challenges of providing accessible solutions for people with disabilities in the mobile market. In particular, his Doo Phone interface – how and why it came about, and the amount of impact something so simple can have on someone’s life.

Brisbane festival iPhone Application

Finally, Hannah Suarez needs little introduction within Brisbane’s mobile and digital media circles. She is Online Marketing Coordinator for the Brisbane Festival and also runs the website Brisbane Creative Industries. The Brisbane Festival is on throughout September,  and Hannah will talk about the many digital and social media initiatives she’s been undertaking, and in particular will showcase the Brisbane Festival iPhone application.

Renewed MoMo Brisbane a Mobile Success!

The revitalized Mobile Monday event in Brisbane this week was an unqualified success, with around 40 attendees joining Oliver Palmer, Chris Kettle and Phil Larsen to discuss iPhones, the application store, and the future of mobile at our new venue, The Exchange Hotel.

The audience listening intently to the presentations

Phil Larsen told the story of Halfbrick’s Fruit Ninja game, and what it took from a promotions effort to get to one million paid downloads on the AppStore. Besides of course an engaging, “sticky” game experience, it also takes a lot of hard work with reviewers and plain tactical sense to get your application noticed, rated, reviewed and (most importantly) bought in the launch period. My247’s Chris Kettle spoke about their effort to launch and promote MyMovies as a paid application, while TigerSpike’s Oliver Palmer provided some real insights into emerging trends around the world of mobile and mobile applications.

We also welcomed Peter Leutjens from AIMIA, our drink sponsors for the evening, and i.Lab’s Peter Allison, who spoke about their forthcoming Angel Investor event. We’d heartily recommend that you attend this event to get a chance to pitch your next mobile idea at some qualified local investors.

But the real star of the show was our new venue, The Exchange Hotel’s Corner Bar – our follow-up survey (mobile of course) confirmed the new room a resounding success, with the drinks, discussion and networking extending far into the evening.

Mark your calendars for the next Mobile Monday Brisbane, on Monday August 16th, and stay tuned to the e-mail list for forthcoming speaker, sponsor and other event announcements.
